What's it worth?

Just came across an ad for a 4-door 1975 240TD (European version) with 20k miles original. I don't know how to evaluate this model but I'm interested in it especially if it is as original as it is claimed to be. Would appreciate your input on this model's reliability and its market value. The car is in Florida and it has the 300 5-cylinder engine.

Thanks.

MB factory didn't make a 1975 240TD. It might be some kind of conversion. Is it a wagon or just a turbocharged sedan? Need a better description.

Hmmmm, it has 20K "original" miles, and is on it's second engine? Said engine being different from original?
I don't even know where to start!
Palangi is correct (as usual), way more info needed.....

There actually was such a thing as a 240D 3.0, so it's possible that the engine is original to the car. There also was such a thing as a 240TD, but not until much later.

What's it worth?

Thanks for your replies. Assuming that after thorough checking, the car turns out to be as described, i.e. original European version with 20k miles on it.
What would be a reasonable amount to pay for it?
Would I have problem getting it serviced in the US by MB dealers?
How would you rate the 115 chassis and the 5 cylinder 3.0 diesel engine?

Thanks again for your replies.

Since we still have no idea of what kind of car it is, we cannot estimate a value.

20K miles is highly doubtful. Remember, it came with an odomoter / speedometer reading in KM's.

Most US dealers do not care to service a gray market car, or a car that old. You will need to find an independent garage, or learn to DIY.

115's are great cars, but certain things are a real pain to work on.

Good examples of W115 300D/240D 3.0 pains are, changing oil, belts, and water pump. The same can be said for M110 six cyl. W115 cars.

I wouldn't get carried away by "low miles", the odometers are very easy to turn back and only read in five digits. Most of these cars were bought and driven hard, not kept as garage queens. Make sure the heater fan is working, as they built the car around it, and it is very expensive to replace.

I have posted a few photos of the car at the link below. I am a little concerned with the looks of the engine compartment. Is this normal for the age and claimed mileage?

Thanks.

240d 3.0

Wow--nice car. Very rare for the U.S. W115 car with the 5 cylinder engine and 4 speed stick shift.

Plus the car looks cherry. Nice find
