Diesel Convertable?
I am toying with the idea of getting a convertable, but it has to be a diesel.
My ideal dream car would be a new 2008 SLK 320 CDI TriTurbo, but alas my chances of getting one of those to the US are slim to none.. ![]() What would be the ideal body style and engine/transmission combination to accomplish a Mercedes diesel convertable? I was thinking an OM603 into a 380SL. Maybe a OM642 into a W170 SLK.. ![]() Any suggestions as to where I should start on this? Pictures of my current W210 here: http://www.turbofroggy.com/e300.htm |

From what I've seen, the diesel engines are too tall to fit in an SL body without changes to the hood profile.

Crud. I guess the V of a V8 is lower than the straight 6 profile.
I haven't actually measured the diffrence between the two engines. I'll have to look up some specs on the two engines to see what the height diffrences are. |

I do recall pictures of somebody here installing an OM601 into an old R107 body. I can't seem to find them, otherwise I'd link'em.

Then you have to smell it with the top down though. Unless its on Bio fuel then it would just make you hungry.
