OK so here is the whole story. When i first bought the 240D the secondary fuel filter hadnt been changed in more than a year, so i decided to change it, bought a filter from auto zone and put it on, needless to say the filter looked like it had a messed up gasket, and so it started to leakin, a lil at first, but after letting it sit on an incline for 4 days when i was in tennessee i saw it leaking down the driveway, so on friday i bought a new one from autozone, thinking that the one i had on there was lewaking because of the bad gasket. I tightened the new one and now it is leaking agian.
My question is, is this a problem for anyone else? were do other people get there secondary filters and how tight are u suppose to tighten the top bolt?? i tightened it really hard but dont want to tighten it any harder(unless i should) because its really tight right now any help would be appriciated

There is a washer that the bolt goes through I think its brass or something, but you probably need a new one. I had a jacked one up and I tried to tighten the filter untill I stripped the theads on the filter out. That sucked really bad, because it was brand new. It doesn't need to be mega tight. It just needs a good washer.

The top washer is fine, its just the rubber seal on the filter the is suppose to seal it, but some diesel still goes threw the black gasket

You might want to pull the filter housing off and check it over for hairline cracks, not a very common thing to happen, but not impossible either, and would explain the ongoing issues, It should seal right up by hand tightening the filter, and just firmly snugging the banjo bolts and top bolt, the washers are made either of aluminum or brass, seem them both ways, and they crush very easily, I've had good luck reusing them unless theyve gotten distorted.
If you really want to make sure it's not cracked, you can get magnaflux in a 2 part rattle can kit, works really well. -Chris |

You can also do the *Silicon High-Temp Sealant* solution, I did this on both of our cars, and they haven't leaked a drop since!
