one of my white plastic things is broken too. It is for the passenger side. Super glue doesn't seem to work. Does anybody have an idea where I can get a part number or something? Would this little piece even have a part number?
One thing though. With the vacuum system working well, isn;t it very hard to lock/unlock any door except the drivers? This would be because you are pushing/pulling against the vacuum. The master vacuum control is in the driver's door and that is what controls every lock. If this is so, I don't even see why you would have a key on the passenger's side. Or door knobs at all on any other door except the drivers. I know when I try to unlock a door against the vacuum it is hard to do. This could have been what snapped my plastic piece (somebody trying to unlock it with the key against the vacuum).

ok after searching more I find that this is not an uncommon problem. The recomended solutions are call Phil or go to a dealer.
I still wonder about the whole door lock system design. Am I really not allowed to lock or unlock my door (easily) if I am sitting in the back seat? How does everybody get around this?

On my 1984 300SD ( wich is a combination electric/vacuum system ), the complete system is quite easy. As soon as one unlocks driver's door all doors are unlocked. If when seated as driver, one depresses the master vacuum knob all doors are locked automatically [it's a safety thing, both for passengers - children particulary - and also hijackers can not just open doors and pull you or any passenger out, or steal parcels , etc.]. It also works in reverse for all doors. and also individually for the other three doors. Key for passenger side? It's a convenience feature, saves you walking around to driver's side to just put parcels on the seat. Similiar idea with the so-called Valet key - it will only unlock driver's door and start car, but it won't release locked trunk or glove box.

I think I might know what my trouble is regarding the rest of my locking system (hard to lock from non driver's door). I'll verify and repost as soon as I figure it out.

The white plastic pieces is quite common
on many cars, particularly euro ones so you can find replacements at junk yards and will have to match the style, better if you found you're own style and salvage from there. FYI Jags use metal clips and many are interchangable with MB's
Dealers and Phil may have them, usually these items are dropped from stock shortly after production runs so new supply may be limited. Any autoparts store that has a HELP product section will have assorment packets in plastic and stampped steel, I have found many alternatives of common design and prefer the metal ones as they don't break nearly as easily. Hope that helps

The only way it can be put on and still have the vacuum lock work at all is if it's allowable airflow direction is away from the master switch and toward the vacuum source/reservoir. And it was put on that way. But this has the effect of isolating the door lock lines from the resrevoir ONLY when you go to manually pull/push a switch in a door other than the drivers door. This means that when you push/pull a door lock you are pulling a vacuum on a very small volume (only the volume of the door lock lines, either the red or the green but not both) so it is hard to do. Without the one way valve there, you are pulling against a much larger volume (the door lock lines, etc, PLUS the reservoir) so it is a lot easier. I susspect that is why the little white plastic piece broke.
