Wagon SLS Valve height adj. linkage question

A non-AC question.....
I have my adjustment linkage adjusted as small as it will go, and the wagon ride height is still too low. If I remove linkage, the valve assy will raise the wagon to proper height, so that is working.
I have always read/been told not to adjust the linkage connection point arm on thee shaft coming out of valve assy, but I know of no other way to get this thing adjusted to proper height.
Anyone ever have to adjust their's in this manner?

Upon review of my almost completly worthless Haynes manual, chapter 10, page 179....tells us not a dadgum thing...I hate this book....worthless as tits ona boar hog!

Howsomever, it did have a good picture and it sure looks like you could move the lever....looks like it is just a clamp type conection. BTW, I haven't read or heard any thing about NOT adjusting the lever's position. Try it..you can always move it back.

Now when you remove the link and manually move the lever, it works right?? Which way do you move it to go up? Haven't fooled with mine yet (it works so I ain't gonna fix it).

Seems like you move the lever up and the car goes up. Definitely shorten the linkage to make it rise, so I assume down is up. Clear as mud?
It does seems easy to move the clamping assy to change geometry, but I don't understand why I've always heard not to do that. I guess if I do I will mark the position carefully prior to beginning.
If your's is working, don't even let it see you looking under there.....

Jimmy, you know the system needs a load to actuate the lever and start pumping up. Did you load all kids and dogs in the cargo bay? I used about 400 pounds of lead shot to load my wagon (and my shotgun shells)...it leveled right out. Neat system...when they work!

I think mine will level out fine, it's just that my nominal starting point is too low. In other words, when it does level out, it levels back to what is almost a sag to start with.

Well, I undertook this as this evenings project.
First of all I'm embarrassed by my MS paint additions. No photo shop guy here at all.....
There is only so much that the lever can be adjusted on the valve shaft (we'll call it). The shaft has a notch in it, and the tightening screw fits in the groove. It will only rotate a couple of mm's.
So, I adjusted it as far as it would go in the direction I needed. Then I removed my linkage and made it as small as I could. This is the max I can make the car rise via these linkages.
Well, mission accomplished. I measured from my hubcap tip up the the bottom of fenderwell. I started with 5 3/4 inches, and ended up at almost 7 inches (A lifetime first! I digress....)
It may be a tad on the high side, but I can adjust it lower at this point. I can really tell a difference when driving. It just feels like the rear of the wagon is no longer sagging, but it did not make my ride any rougher or bouncier.
Now if the darn AC would just get alittle colder.......

Jimmy...I can get 7", but need three strokes!

You are a very lucky man to have three nuts! (here we go again) I saw 3 nuts in photo #2...can you remove the center nut to shorten the linkage a little more, if needed?
