Veg related - Pollack valve
I had read a bit here and there about Pollack valve failure and have now had the experience. I now have a little over 25K miles on wvo in my 190D daily driver, and all has been seamless and grief free (haven't even had to change the wvo filter yet).
Went on a short (165 mile ea way) trip to drown some worms in Lake Champlain iast week. Mpg seemed pretty terrible but I was towing my little fishing boat, which I had, until now, only done locally. Almost home (300 miles or so) I ran out of wvo. Flipped the switch to dino and motored on home. When I switched over to dino it seemed as though there was more than I had remembered there being in the dino tank. When I got home and smelled the exhaust the problem became apparent. The return side of the pollack had failed, sending the veg return into the dino tank, thus what appeared to be really poor mileage. On the way out weather was hot (for this neck of the woods) 85+/- and there were some long grades where the engine (and veg) temp had hit 100c. Must have been more than the Pollack could handle. Frybrid ss solonoid valves are on order. Might be something to consider if you are setting up a wvo system. Jim
