Does anyone know of where to acquire manual transmission fluid and differential gear oil. Pep boys, sears, nor kregan sold the right type and Mercedes wanted 45$ for transmission fluid.

Just use off-the-shelf Dextron/Mercron ATF in the tranny. RedLine MTL is about the best fluid you can use but do NOT use 90weight gear oil.

I prefer Valvoline Full Synthetic Gear Oil for the diff. LINK

manual transmission oil

I ordered from MB web site, a 1981 owner's manual.

for a manual transmission the capacity is 2.7 US pt, or 1.3 l
they recommend Engine Oil SAE 10W/20 or W-20

for the automatic - 5 US qt ATF Automatic Transmission.

But, I have seen other threads and others also say to use ATF in a manual transmission. Not sure what I will do when it comes time to change mine. I had the shop ( none MB, but works specialists on MB) to change the transmission and rear end for me. Normally I change my own, but just getting old and lazy.

The rear end, according to the book, 2.1 US pt and hypoid gear oil SAE 90, or 85W/90

As I was reading the thread here at the bottom of the page appears an "ad" for Redline Products, and being a proponent for their excellent MLT and oils (although I do buy Amsoil now in 2.5 gal containers) I clicked on it.

Not a bad price, $9.15. You need 2 bottles of it for a manual trans.
Also a thread on the subject:

Is sae 80w 90 ok for rear diff? Its valveoline fully synthetic. Also, running automatic trasmission fluid in a manual is alright?
