I reached warp speed today... 110mph in a NA 300d

Vroom vroom. Took a while to get there but still had room to go! I need to take this thing to Atlanta Motor Speedway and see what it can do on a big oval.

Nice try, that's the wrong speedo for the car, you're getting an incorrect reading..

My 1978 300D topped at 94. It went to 90 pretty quick, then took a mile of standing on it to get to 94. This was on level ground. I think I hit a wall where the IP couldn't dump any more fuel.

That speedo is for a car with a much different rear differential ratio than yours, so it thinks your going a lot faster than you actually are. (Driveshaft RPMS way higher at a given speed on your car than they would be on the car that speedo is from) I'd bet its reading about 14-16mph too high, especially if the speedo is from a 2.88 or 2.47diff car and your N/A 300d has a 3.69 (I think) ratio. I bet when you were going "110" you were actually going about 90-93mph or so. Your odometer is also reading too high, meaning its saying you've gone a lot farther than you actually have.

A turbodiesel 300d or 300sd with a 3.07 differential can barely get over 110mph. My dad's and mine both top out around 114ish, thats when they hit the redline limiter. A N/A 617 also has about 40 less horsepower than a turbo model, also limiting top speed.

LOL, I didn't even notice. The 300D should probably have a 125 mph speedo.

Speedometer looks like it came out of a 280E. Which in fact, in US trim, also has a 3.69:1 differential, I believe.

However, I can barely reach 120 mph in a 350SDL (with the original 3.5 liter engine) due to IP governor limitations. I need 3 miles, lol. That's on level ground, and pushing against the maximum rpm governor stop.

Hey at least it will do that speed. Better than a new stinking Hyundai.

Best I could do was 116 in my '95 - NOT downhill. Curious what the wagon could do, don't think I'll find out.

Wow, a 280E is geared lower than a N/A 300D. I didn't know that, I just assumed it would be higher.
