I don't see why people want to protect these companies. I hate the EPA but I'd report that in a heart beat. Why should some people go through great expense and effort to play by the rules and others get away with that crap.

Reason why people protect it is that they don't want to be hassled by the law or the company, protect their own ass, have an ace up their sleeve for future needs. Lets say you are going to get fired. You can always ask the boss "OK. Why was it so and so could do this and get away with it? Oh well, never mind. Guess I'll be dusting off my resume, then?"

One of my concerns is the other people that work there. This company has a habit of shutting down locations in a moments notice. I am getting bored working there so I would not mind too much, in fact I have a few applications out there as we type.

They won't dare to shut you off if they know that you know of their skeletons. Maybe a promotion to buy you off too. However, now that you have posted it here, you might be liable if you don't blow the whistle. Of course, if you do and your future employer hears of it, well...... They might not want to hire a snitch. While it is all good in theory, I would be leery of hiring a snitch since they could do the same to me if I were to ever screw up. So it is not just your job today but your job tomorrow.

1. Run the risk and leave the company quitely
2. Be a snitch
3. Buck for better conditions and hope nobody here reports the company.

1 and 3 are pretty same because you might be considered aparty to the crime if someone here reports. Guess you are not comitted to being a snitch and hope your future company doesn;t hear of it.

As of this moment; you have NO option!!!
You must report it.
By making this post:
#1. You are a witness to a criminal act.
#2. You are criminally culpable (now that your knowledge is public) if you fail to report it.
#3. Be aware that this is a public forum, and some members are government employees = Forestry, Law enforcement, US geological service, IRS, EPA, etc, etc, = they are obligated to report criminal acts or be prosecuted themselves for failing to report it.

I do not know the company and/or it's reaction (or employee reaction).
The following may be over reaction or save your life/health/job.

Please consider:
#A. Consult a lawyer (for your protection) before you report it.
#B. Your continued employment may be in doubt.
#C. Your continued health/life may be in doubt.
#D. Witness protection/relocation may be needed.
Looks like good advice, though I've never heard of the need for witness protection program for whistle-blowers. Is that a real threat?

Concerning the obligation to report it, that is the obligation of every citizen, regardless of the employer. It is a crime NOT to report it, IIRC.

Contaminating ground water can be a terrible health hazard. This is not my field of expertise, but I think there are real health hazards especially to youngsters.

Talk to a lawyer.

Depending on who the whistle is blown on. If it is a company, you may just get blackballed. Like I said, if I knew you were a whistleblower, obligation or not, I would be leery to hire you in case you ever did it to me.

That might be true but reality is different.

Youngsters, oldsters it is a problem

He should
