Sudden loss of tranny fluid

Happy 4th y'all

I spent the day adjusting the valves on my 83 300D. Then I did a diesel purge and changed the fuel filter. After a 15 minute test drive, I returned home and saw a growing puddle running down the drive. It seems to be tranny fluid and its coming from the grate looking thing at the bottom of the bellhousing. Any thoughts on a cause?

Why so sudden? Tranny had been perfect up till now. The car has around 140,000 on it.

bell housing

the grate from the bellhousing is where the torque converter is..
It could be as simple as the torque converter drain plug but most likely
its your front seal....

IF the tranny is good and shifts I would just replace this seal.... and keep it..
those trannys last to about 300k miles... Its possible to diy...

Thanks, Is the drain plug on the front of the converter, because the front looks pretty dry to me. I need to get a socket for the crank to spin it around and make sure.

It sure seems like a seal, but it just went, hadn't really been leaking up till yesterday, than it's pouring out all over the drive. Is this common?

Any chance that the work I did (valves, purge, filters) would have any effect? I did have to take apart the linkage.... I don't see the connection, but......
