Still not working

The primary (clear plastic) fuel filter never fills up with fuel when I start, or attempt to start the car. Should it be filling up? It is 80% full of air, and when I crank the engine and it sputters for it's customary 15 sec I can see nothing coming out of the fuel line into the filter. Is my lift pump gone? My primer pump is certainly weird (it doesn't screw down/lock when I'm done). Is there some sort of pump in the fuel tank that could be gone? I've replaced all the filters in the car but that has had no effect. I've tried priming the system out of a bucket of diesel fuel as well (I just took the rubber fuel line coming from the steel fuel line and put it in a container of fuel). No change.
Bottom line:
Fuel is not getting from tank to first filter (inline)

Fixed

It turned out that my injectors were so dirty that the car would hardly start. I ran a whole quart of diesel fuel additive through the lines and it cleaned it out in a few hours. It runs sooooo much smoother than before .
