Just got home with the new addition = W123
I sorta jumped the gun on this one and added it to my sig when we won the eBay auction, but this past Friday flew from Orlando to Scranton, PA and drove this gorgeous '78 300D home...
http://photos.ebizautos.com/4337/1060759_1.jpg I was stunned that all the vacuum stuff works, and well. Including the Climate Control! Got a leaky AC hose off the compressor, but everything spun up and operated as it should when I put a charge of r-134a (previously converted) to it before venting to the atmosphere. Only issue I had on the weekend trip was the original alternator puked by the time I got as far as Chambersburg, PA, so I did a quick AutoZone parking lot swap with one of their DuraLast units and was back on the road producing many volts. :D Thank goodness we've got such easy to service alternators! This one is for my lovely wife, especially since she loves the blue interior. Apparently it was a local (to the dealer) one owner car that was regularly serviced. Just wish I could've gotten records, but the fact I drove it over 1300 miles to Florida this weekend is a pretty good voucher for it's condition! Take a peek if interested: 1978 Mercedes 300D |

how does it compare?
Nice car! How does the acceleration compare to the 240D you own?
Enjoy it. Kevin 1979 240D manual 1984 190D manual |

Right now my focus is the get this one tuned and rigged out for my wife, then I'll get on the W116 300SD for my own daily driver. As mentioned elsewhere the '82 300D Turbo manual 4-speed is now for sale, and the 240D will be a "tinker project". ;) Thanks for the comments! |
