adding a turbo
I have a 1980 300D, and I am wondering if I can take the turbo off a 1980 300SD turbo and bolt it on my car. Thanks Pete

you maybe could but to do it right you need to swap the entire motor. there are many parts that are upgraded. also the tranny and rear end and radiator and the speedo.
then you will have something. tom w

Not exactly.
You could bolt it on and such but the turbo engines differ from the N/A engines. The turbo engines have oil jets that cool the pistons. You would be better off yanking a turbo engine and dropping it in your car. It is possible to modify your old block but this is not something that just anybody can do. Its also easier to just swap engines out.

L-o-n-g time ago a company sold a turbo kit for the 240D.... added about 12 horse-ish.
Trouble was...most motors couldn't take it. ...Mercedes built one of the best turbo diesel motors in it's time, and some believe it still is without pier. You CANNOT duplicate a Mercedes 'turbo' from a n/a motor...don't try. Like has been said...find yer a 300 turbo lump. .
