1991 350 SDL AC Problem
I just purchased a well maintained 1991 350 SDL with 76,000 miles. I discovered that the temp switch on top of the dryer has been bypassed with a short wire. The aux fans come on at approx 110 C when the car cools down to just over 100 they cut off. I don't understand what makes the fans come on with the temp switch bypassed and don't understand why the fans aren't running all the time when the AC is operating with the switch bypassed.
Where do I go from here? Thanks in advance for any advice, Frank |

I'd be more worried that my 350SDL got up to 110C!!

I intentionally tried to get the temp up to see if the fans would work, the car was sitting idling, AC on and 95 F outside temp.
Thanks |

Is it possible it is the pressure switch that is bypassed, as opposed to the temp switch? (just starting with most basic idea)
**I am assuming it is similar to a 123**

The switch on the dryer is a temperature switch for the fluid in the system. If the vehicle does not move much air through the condenser, the temperature and pressure will climb excessively. When this occurs, the switch closes and starts the fans at about 1/2 speed. I'm not understanding the situation with the switch bypassed. If the two leads are jumped together, the fans should run at 1/2 speed all the time. If the two leads are left off the switch, the fans will never run at 1/2 speed and the switch in the head will start the fans at full speed at 105°C. |

Jump the two leads on the switch below the top (not symmetrical) and see if the fans will start on low speed. If the relay is working and the fans are working, one of those two switches must start the fans on low speed. |

Is this the switch you refer to bypass? |

Jump this switch and see if the fans will start. The relay may or may not be the culprit. |
