82' 300TDT, don't know if it's worth it
I've been searching for a 300TD for a couple of months now. Started out knowing nothing about these cars, but it didn't take long to fall for them.
I've driven an 82' diesel coupe, several sedans and just recently, a wagon. The cars ranged from (in my opinion) great to great-big-problem. The wagon I found is an 82' with over 217k (odometer stopped). It's body has some cancer, but not a whole lot. A bit below one of the rear window seals. below rear bumber on corner, hatch bottom and passenger door. The interior is in really good shape, and seems to be complete. Engine is clean, seems to be leak free and cranked right up. I was really impressed by the mechanics of the car in comparison to the others i have driven. Seems really tight. AC blows strong and cool but not cold. The problem is this. It was raining when i checked it out, and there was a pretty good leak above the passenger seat. floors were wet, but not rusted or rotted beneath the carpet, car has been outside for at least 6 mo. Whoever had the car before decided it would be better to seal the sunroof with silicon instead of fixing properly. (did not try and break the seal and open roof). been reading up on this and it doesn't sound like an unusual problem. just an undesireable one. Also, the top of the passenger side headlight casing appears to be melted. Could blowback cause that? The intake is directly in line with the melted spot. Would the car run and sound as sweet as it does if it is an existing problem? the guy is asking $3,500 any input? |

Way too much $ for a wagon with cancer. The AC issue is seldom simple, and/or cheap. The sunroof doesn't really seal, it just channels water fore and aft via drains. Windshields leak after awhile and sometimes require reseal. Good interiors are not that hard to come by, as they were of good original quality.
So, to summarize, I personally would not spend that much $ on the car you describe. I support your desire for a wagon, though........
