Remove the sender on the filter housing. I'm pretty sure they use the same fitting as the plastic tube. It worked on my SD engine anyway.

Got It

Found out that by removing the oil pressure sending unit from the back of the filter tower on the 617, then lower the engine in the car. After mounting engine, screw in the manual gauge line and your done. Thanks for the reply.

Update

Seems after finally getting the 617 running and controlled in the car, I have developed a serious oil leak. The nylon line the is screwed into the oil filter tower rear cover is leaking, along with the cover gasket in that area. I have removed the cover and found there is nothing to hold the nylon line tight. I need an adapter to make the nylon lines fitting screw into a ferrol (sp?) type connection. Any problems or solutions to this type of leak? there seems to be metric threads of a straight pitch thats not too commonly found.....Oh yeah WHOA!!! my 240 has never responded like that, not driven yet but I CANT WAIT!!!!!

Any way to post a picture of this fitting?

the end of the nylon line takes a tapered ring which is compressed by the ferrol nut and the ferrol base. (i am not sure i used proper names there) if your nylon line is missing the brass part it wont seal. and it will pull out.

I have not lost the brass fitting at the end of the nylon line, there is no ferrol fitting in the 617 oil filter tower rear cover. However the one on the 616 does have the ferrol fitting in the cover, but they are shaped differently, so there can be no swapping of covers. The 617 had an electrical sender which required no ferrol fitting since the sender has a large nut at its base which aids in placement and sealing....just look up sender for 300sd and you will see no ferrol fitting...working on pics now..thnx

i believe i have heard that there is a housing which must be swapped, perhaps the part that the sender screws into. the oil filter housing?

i havent done this personally so my efforts to help may be useless.

Help!!!!!!!!!

Well swapping over to the 240d oil filter tower is not an option, first there is no fitting for the oil feed line to the turbo, and second I dont want to destroy the oil cooler lines trying to get them loose. I have been to several hose and fitting shops here in town and once they see the emblem cast into the piece they dont even try to help....what a bunch of worthless bastards!
just because its a mercedes doesnt mean threads or the metal comes from outer space...I have several ideas like retapping a new standard thread hole but then I cant plug the original hole. Is there an electric oil gauge for w123 or will 300sd oil pressure guage fit into w123 cluster? Im trying to post pics but it keeps saying invalid document type. PLEASE GUYS surely im missing something simple here...how does the nylon line hold tight when there is nothing in the oil cavity for it to press against?...HELP I WANT TO DRIVE THIS NEW MONSTER!!!!!!!

Ok the threads are 12x1.5 metric..I have found a bolt to fit into the rear cover and then I'm going to drill out the bolt tap it and install a barb type fitting and then hook the line to the barb...not sure if it will leak or not but its all I can come up with.........

W123 oil filter tower.

The oil filter towers for W123 and W126 cars are distinctly different for OM617turbos. To fix it properly, get the oil tower from a W123 that had a 617 avec turbocharger. If you want part numbers for the respective towers, pm. It may take me a couple days to get back to you, but I still have the smoked engine I pulled from a wagon into which I put an engine from a W126 SD. I changed the towers when I installed the engine.

Jay.

Not really. I have an 84SD engine in my car and the stock 240D oil pressure gauge line goes right in and does not leak. I just removed the electric sender and screwed in the W123 line.

Why not screw the electric sender back in there and wire up a gauge? I have a complete dash out of an 84 300sd if that helps,
if nothing else you can drive the car around without an oil pressure gauge.... I'm driving my MB powered Toyota around like that...MB sender not compatiable with the factory Toyota gauge.

I also have the sd cluster as stated in the post earlier. Doesn't fit w123 cluster since its welded to the circuit board, so removing it would probably damage it and the w123 doesnt have the printed circuit to feed the guage with power....
