PPG Windshield Glass
Does anyone know if PPG windshield glass is of the same quality as OEM?
I looked at another E300 last night, and noticed that it had this installed. Otherwise, the body looks nearly perfect. I'm not sure I want to buy it, unless I can get full service records. Especially for the 5-speed transmission. Even at that, there was diesel fuel leaking from somewhere, puddling under the engine as it sat. The rear was parked slightly higher than the front, so it might only be the obviousely-leaking return lines from the injectors. Still, the dealer should have made sure it wasn't leaking fuel before advertising the car, especially since they're not advertising it cheap. |

I think it's fairly decent. When I bought my car, it had OEM glass. When I went to pick it up, the owner mentioned that he had replaced the windshield because he didn't like the sand pits in it. The new glass was/is still PPG. 10 years later it has only a little pitting and a small crack from a tire thrown rock on the highway that would have cracked any glass.

I posed the same question one day to one of my golf buddies, who is the manager of a large glass making facility. Has like 30 years experience making
glass. He replied, "Glass is glass". "What about Pilkington?", said I. They invented the modern techniques about 50 years ago." said he. Relax. PPG will be just fine. Steve |

Thanks, guys. Unfortunately, that's only one less thing to worry about with this car.

PPG is OE on most GM cars, and thats what I replaced the one in Rag Doll with. She had a Guardian windsheild which was starting to delaminate and was suffering from a leaky seal.

i recently had to replace the glass on my 300SD to pass inspections. the cheapest place put some PPG on it. its working fine, the only thing was that the glass had a black rim around it, so i can't see the vin number on the lower corner of the driver side anymore. no biggie tho.
