I am having a very similar problem with my 83' 300D - feels as though I get some slight cold air blowing through with the 134 transformation - considering changing back to R-12. it was converted before I bought it.

Can anyone suggest to me the proper conversion back to R12? anything to look out for etc...

I do believe I have the original compressor and the belt is squealing - must be changed and re-tightened. perhaps this will help?

If the pressure on the high side is off - what does this mean?

Has anyone tried to turn the temp colder on the temperature control dial behind the dash board?

Turns out, I didn't put enough of a charge on it. I think I have a tiny leak somewhere. I went to autozone and got a 19oz can of the Synthetic R134a that has stop-leak in it and supposedly give 18% colder air. I put in about half the can and now she blows cold like a fridge. I also went to Lowe's and purchased some 1" foam pipe insulation and wrapped my refridgerant lines under the hood with it using tie-wraps to secure it. Blowing nice and cold now. Total cost:

24.99 for the 19oz can

$1.20 for the insulation at Lowe's

134a is a man made substance, so they are now touting it as synthetic??

If we could take out and clean our evaporators you would be amazed at how much better the performance of the system would be.

Sorry for the confusion. I would say it is a pretty good product....I used it on the following vehicles and it works great:

98 Chevy Suburban 7.4L (big block 454)

95 Chevy Lumina

and of course the 82 300D. It's not going to freeze you out like R-12, but yesterday it was 101F here with a heat index near 115F and I would say the A/C in the benz performed in a satisfactory manner.

The car was converted back in 2000, so I was looking for a cheap fix. I am not sure if I want to go back to R-12 or try to install a PF condensor and stay R134a...but I do know that I don't want to worry about that right now. I have some more important things on my list right now like getting my new v-belts installed, and rebuilding the suspension all around. There may be a new steering box in my future as well.

Hopefully this will get me by for now, until I can do more extensive work on the A/C system.
