Ebay / used car salesmen strike again

I just got a used 1987 300D on eBay and it had some ghetto rigging done to it before I picked it up.

The A/C compressor was activated with a toggle switch and worked fine until I turned the fan off.

Then next time I tried to turn the fan on it wouldn’t work. Also, I noticed that the high fan speed button is stuck. Any ideas on how they might have rigged it up the first time.

Another thing that is not right for sure is the engine coolant temperature gauge. It shows around the 60 range. I am not too concerned with it unless this engine overheats and they did this to mask it.

Do you know where the lead wire and sensor is?

oooh, sounds like fun.

get that temp gauge fixed fast! you REALLY don't want to be unaware of your engine's temp.
ya might want to test your head gaskets too. simple cold overflow test should be ok to clear the head gasket.

It may not be too hard to trace out since most folks who ghetto-rig have never taken the time to look at a wiring diagram. They usually "find" 12volts somewhere and splice it direct. Look for the simplest point A to point B solution and you can usually find the cheap butt splices used for this butchery.

(My experience in tracing down this crap, in general aviation, is more than I care to mention.)

I hope it was on the ground. I'd hate to find this sort of thing on a plane while I was on it in the air!

I have seen navigation system add-ons that would make some of these car stereo places shake their heads.
