~B50 == more punch than petro?
So I have been fooling around with B100 mixes. I have found that B100 makes my car perform lousy, little acceleration and noxious smelling. However, about a 50/50 mix makes my engine run quiet, and seems to provide more punch than straight petrodiesel. Any comments? I have yet to do the MPG test on the 50/50 mix.

I run B99 and find it performs just fine. Go figure....

I'm suprised that B100 gives your exhaust a bad smell. I find biodiesel blends to do the opposite.

In my 99 E300, B99 seems to make the turbo come on a little sooner/longer in normal city driving. This gives one the sense of better performance.
My MPG's run about 90% of diesel. I've found as little as 1% Bio (1qt to 21 gals) quiets my engine.

When I ran B20, I could tell the power loss right away, I didn't like it due to the sluggish acceleration....I went back to 100% petro, got my power back, and its cheaper too.... If biodiesel was cheaper I'd use it, but less mpg's and less power for more $$ isn't my idea of efficient....

B100 runs smoother for me, and provides about the same power....

The biodiesel has less BTU per unit volume than the petrodiesel. So any mixture of biodiesel is actually less power. Perhaps it burns smoother and or better giving the impression that there is more power?

In the 5000 miles that I've driven my 300D since buying it in March, I've noticed no significant difference in performance or mileage on B20, B100, or dino diesel. Biodiesel does have less deliverable energy (about 5%) but most folks won't see it because there are too many mileage-affecting variables in our daily driving.
It's certainly possible that some engines may be more sensitive to different kinds of fuels than others. For example, when our co-op gets a rare bad batch of biodiesel, the Mercedes diesels run poorly (but they still run) while the VW TDIs simply die. Even among M-Bs, the condition of your engine and the quality of the biodiesel can have a big effect.

On my NA E300 I notice a power difference w/ B20 compared with regular petro. Usually the B20 is 2 cents cheaper that petro, go figure...
