Hose clamp crimping Pliers????
I am replacing my CV boots and was wondering where I can get a pair of the crimpers (what are they called)used to crimp the OEM style clamps used on the CV boots and many other places? I know that I can use other styles of clamps but wanted to try the permanent style? If the pliers are expensive can someone post a picture of the crimping end of the pliers so that I can make them (I am a machinist)?
Thanks, PKK |

I believe that the tool is more of a "machine" than a "set of pliers." The only people who have them are rebuilders, as far as I know. Most owners simply replace the complete axle with a rebuilt one. That's what I and many others here have done. The labor involved to R&R is the same and you get some new parts along with the new boots. That said, as a machinist you might be able to build something to do the job -- don't let me discourage you.

You want "ear" band crimping pliers? Or the wind & crimp style? Mac, KD, Snap-on, Lisle, probably Craftsman: they all make 'em. I've seen them ~ $12-$25.
This shows several style for CV boot crimpers: http://www.mysimon.com/Tools-and-Hardware/9000-11020_8-0.html?sdcq=dnatrs-lisle-hw_tools_clamps_and_vises/dflltrail-Lisle~Clamps%20and%20Vises
