Fuel Leak at Delivery Valve on IP
Purchased an '87 300D 2 weeks ago. On top of the IP there is a slow fuel leak, oozing out from underneath the locking ring for the #1 delivery valve. This is with the engine shut off, just sitting in the driveway.
No manual in hand as of yet, and haven't found anything along this line on the forum so far. Is this something I can tackle on my own (retired Navy machinist mate), or are we talking shop visit here? Are there one or more seals that need to be replaced? Saw on www.autopartsauthority.com they listed both an o-ring and a copper washer for the delivery valves with the same description. O-ring, washer, or need both? |

Here's a link to the service document on this procedure.
http://mb.braingears.com/124_DISC1/Program/Engine/602_603/07.1-8627.pdf The only special tool you'll need is the splined socket. After you have everything buttoned up, you'll need to crank the car a LOT until it starts! |

Thank You!
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Tried accessing the maintenance manual on braingears, but keep getting the "page not available" BS.

I have the same problem on my 82 300D Turbo. There is a crush washer that goes down into the bottom under the fuel delivery valvle on mine. Does anyone know where I can find this crush washer for my 82 300D Turbo? A thorough search of the normal online suppliers has come up empty.

Don't forget the 3-stage torque procedure that is only listed in the TDM. From memory I believe it is 30Nm, release, 30Nm, release, then final torque to 35Nm. Don't ask me why... but I hear that if you overtorque them, you can warp the pump, and/or get loud idile, or leaks, or a few other unpleasant things. That just means you get to do it over again, lol. Buy an extra O-ring or two, sometimes you can damage the first one until you figure out the trick to installing them.
