I would speculate the rust and location of vehicle. It would be great to eyeball those jack points closer.
1900 Hits on that car - one bid.

winmutt 07-25-2006 04:31 PM

rust shmust.... hes got atleast one pic of the jack point. i'd say go for it if you can get a "eyeball on it". stick and a manual roof. I wish I had a manual roof in my 300d stick.

Jump on it. 1100.00 would be a deal for me.

dkveuro 07-25-2006 05:02 PM

Will someone please tell me why do I constantly see the following : Vac' leak, easy fix, last one cost less that $50.00"

"Slight valve cover oil leak...easy fix."

"You have to slam drivers door, needs adjustment...easy fix."

etc

etc

etc..............Why not fix the minor problem rather than having to explain it !

.

dkveuro 07-25-2006 05:10 PM

And another thing.......
If, as he says, these motors are good for 500,000 miles. WHY tell us about the engine work with new pistons etc if it's covered less thar 200,000 miles !

For example.......

*Notice: Vehicle is again available for purchase!*

For sale is my 1982 Mercedes Benz 240d w123. It has a rare 4-speed manual transmission and 199,963 miles (just broken in for a mercedes diesel!).

. The engine seems to be in great shape with good compression as it starts up without any hesitation in under a second and runs very smoothly. ................. There are lots of new parts as evidenced by the papers found in the glove box including: $700 worth of work for 4 complete pistons, rod bearings main bearings, a head set, etc., $127 for an oil ring set, $90 for a new compressor with clutch, $92 for something else transmission related (can't read exactly what), plus a bunch of oil changes and things like that. ..........

These cars get super fuel milage, and will easily run for 500,000+ miles without a rebuild
.
It is also a great candidate for biodiesel. I am selling because I already own 2 other Mercedes W123's, and cannot afford to keep a third, no matter how much I want to. If the bidding hits $1,750, I willl go ahead and install a new battery, change the oil and filter, and replace the air filter and both fuel filters. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. Thanks for looking!

Eh ?:stupid:

.

TX76513 07-25-2006 05:13 PM

You are right, that's why there have been 1900+ hits on that car and only 1 bid (from a first time ebayer:rolleyes: ) and the seller has bought $60+ worth of stuff in the last year to give him a 100% (5) Feedback.

wagonpilot 07-25-2006 06:39 PM

I have a data point. The 617 engine will go 485,000 before blowing up. So, that one is getting removed, and the "virgin" with only 143,000 will be installed.

John Holmes III 07-25-2006 06:50 PM

I promise that engine won't last long with new pistons if it wasn't bored oversized or had sleeves installed. New pistons on a tapered cylinder is a cheap fix, that's why it cost $700.00, and I bet it was run out of oil/low on oil to warrant the cheapo rebuild. A clutch is going to cost at least three bills in parts, not including the transmission mount and driveshaft guibo that is probably bad. It's a $500.00 beater with all the rust and mechanical issues. You could spend 3k on mechanical issues and still have a pos, that's why it's on ePray. IMHO.

thanks for making me feel good about not having the money to get it;)

Are those highway miles or Hillbilly miles? Big difference

(As my mom from Wytheville, VA used to say)

As any e-bay auction, its the last 20 seconds that tell the story.

ForcedInduction 07-25-2006 08:28 PM

I just want that oil separator.

TimFreeh 07-25-2006 08:47 PM

I know the W123 chassis is worshiped as a deity around these parts but lets be real. It's a rusty 25 year old car with 200K miles on the clock - you guys really need to take off the rose colored glasses, it's at best a $500 car.

Flame suit on.

ForcedInduction 07-25-2006 10:02 PM

Wow, $1200 and three bids in the last minute.
