Alda Maxed Out!

Is there any further way to turn up th fuel delivery without having to dismantle the IP?? or if I have to, is it easy? (i am quite mechanically inclined)

nope.. not even shimming it will do anything i belive.. modding the IP is fairly easy on the 617 series..but not without intercooling, turning the boost up and adding a pyro/boot guage.. so i guess its not fairly easy

Messing with the ALDA will only change your pre-boost and part-boost power. Once at full-boost, the internal full load setting will still limit the max amount of power you can make. Also, upping the boost won't change how much power you make. The ALDA has a set amount of shaft travel for the boost to work on. 12psi or 21psi, it's the same to the IP.

I don't even have an ALDA (I removed it in February). More smoke when I want it and less power lag off the line.

You can remove the ALDA???? without any dire concequences? so, with that gone, do you have any means of preventing overboost other than the waste gate?

With the ALDA gone, the IP will operate like the ALDA was at full boost pressure all the time.

The wastegate is it. The overboost system is redundant for those who have a boost gauge and watch it every so often. I've got mine next to the pyrometer, so it's always within eyeshot.

Smoke and fuel milage is not an issue after you get used to the more "crisp" throttle response. In fact, I got 24mpg on my last tank. I usually get 21-22.5mpg. After a few days, I got a good feel as to how much pedal I could use without any black smoke.

And when I want some good smoke off the line, well...

Lance, have you ever checked an ALDA to see where it runs out of travel? I'm very curious as to where it runs out. Would it be 11.5 or 12 or 12.5 or 13? I'm running 13.5 psi, but, I have a suspicion that I'm actually hurting performance because I've overheated the charge.

The SD doesn't seem to do much with the last 1/3 of the pedal travel.........and I'm making the guess that the problem is too much boost.

My Engine hardly smokes at all, if I remove the ALDA it should still only smoke under moderate to heave throttle pressure?

do you need any sort of cover plate to replace the ALDA?

Or better yet, pictures if you can.

I don't know what the travel to pressure ratio is. The ALDA I pulled oof my engine was broken. One of the capsules lost it's seal.

Smoke isn't an issue at light throttle take-offs. Like I siad, after awhile you will figure out at what point you start to get black smoke.

I just removed the innards of the ALDA and used it as a dust cap.
Pushing in the rod takes away fuel. Oil is not a problem, the shaft has it's own seal.
