what is this and how do i stop it from leaking oil

This port or what ever it is leaks oil and makes a mess. Does it have a seal that can be replaced. It seems impossible to get to on my 1981 30d. See picture

If not mistaken those are plugs.
They don't have seals behind them but
they can be replaced.
Althought I don't know if they are still
available.

Louis.

I can't really tell what that is from the picture, can you post a picture of the leak on your engine?

If it is a plug...I have replaced a leaking one on a bmw.
Drill hole ( no metal shavings allowed inside engine!) to insert sheet metal screw. The plug was brass/copper. Grab sheet metal screw w/ all sorts of tools until you find one you can bang outwards. Bang in new one using a big socket as guide.
It's the same as the air adjustment screws in carburators...just bigger.

If mine leaks, I would clean clean clean and jb weld it.

I don't believe that there is any plug in that location that will leak oil. Check the valve cover gasket and see if it's running off the side of the head and down to that location.

If that leak is behind the power steering pump to the rear left of pump on motor block and goes into block from the top of engine, I believe someone on this forum has called it an oil pump inspection hole. Mine has leaked for ever and I thought someday I might try to tap a freeze plug in there over the bolt to stop the leak.

on the side of the block

it is on the block behind the PS pump across from the IP. valve cover gasket is brand new with no leaks. Does any one else agree with the suggestion clean it good and jb-weld it. If not please tell me why. I'll need to know. I don,t want to mess anything up. Ray
