The braided hose between two of the injectors on my engine appears to be weeping slightly. Can I just pull the old hoses off and replace by hand? Is it that simple? I started to tug on one last night but thought I should inquire first.

I will replace with same type hose.

Can someone advise as to the function of these hoses?

Thanks,

Nic

These hoses are fuel by pass hoses. I always cut them lengthwise along the injector outlets and then pull them off. Replace all of them one by one.

FWIW, the closest MB dealer is over 30 minutes away, so I made a trip over to the local VW dealer. As it turns out, their diesel return fuel line looks identical to the line on my '85 300D. I bought a length of it, cut it into appropriate sized-pieces, and simply replaced my old lines. It's worked perfectly for the past year without one hint of leaking.

Don't forget the end plug!

Also you will want to renew the end plug on the rearmost nozzle. The new style uses a metal plug in the end. I think they're kind of expensive, maybe $12 or so for the plug, but don't ignore it!

Do yourself a favor

Greetings NIC,

Do yourself a favor and go to fastlane and just order the line you need under fuel delivery for your model, it lists the hose. They are cheaper than a dealer, and they also have the endplugs. Depending on where you live, you'll receive your parts in around three days or less.

Can-do, Aaron and others,

Thanks for good info. I'm going to order from Fast Lane because I believe in supporting this site. Appreciate the clear and consistent feedback re: replacing these little hoses.

Forget what I said!

Charles is right, use fastlane I've spent a good deal of money (to me) through fastlane over the past month and I've always had excellent service at very good prices.

Shame on me.Fastlane is the way to go!! I've used them and they are a good deal. Thought maybe it was crisis. Happen to me and boy does it stink up the garage leaky hoses on a hot motor.

Why buy a new end plug when you can simply put the old plug in a new piece of hose, & voila!

Priceless

It may take longer than you really want to wait for the UPS delivery, but the info from the sponsor is really priceless.
