I haven't taken the time to research it, since I'm not at a point where I could build one. But I presume that the energy (electricle) used to seperate the hydrogen and oxygen in water could be different from the energy (heat) released by their recombining through combustion. My common sence does say that would be a perpetual motion machine, because it's taking water in, letting water out (steam) and having some energy left over. Recycling that water indefinately would yield a better-then-perpetual motion machine, with plenty of energy to spare - IF it worked.

That's correct, and we Americans stick our head in the sand and pay higher prices for food , clothing, and durable goods. Afterall, it's the diesel trucks that supply this demand. The higher price for diesel has to be passed along. It's either supply more cheap diesel or everyone pays for it at the market, no matter what they drive.

That's exactly the point, it would be a perpetual motion machine, which is not possible by definition. People have been trying to do this for a several hundred years now, and it's not going to happen.

I received an e-mail and attachment about 3 months ago about a man in Florida that had made a welder that used water that was excited by an electrical current that produced Hydrogen. He was also playing around with a system on his Ford Escort wagon. He clamed 120 miles per 4oz water. He installed a high capacity alternator and used a pulsed signal to excite the water. I will try and find the link and post it. He is looking for people to distribute the welder, but I would think the auto set up would be more attractive.

I know this nonsense is all over the internet. Don't waste your time, it's not possible. It's either a scam or someone who just doesn't understand basic physics, usually a scam. You can not get more energy out of a process than you put in. In a 100% efficient process it would take exactly the same amount of energy to separate the H2 and O2, as you would get back by recombining them. In the real world, you will always come out behind. Trust me, there is no free lunch in thermodynamics.

Seriously though you are correct, in fact if you simply used batteries and charged them with the energy you would use to crack water you would be way ahead.

At the truck stop station I go to on my commuter route it has gone up steadily in the past 3 weeks from 2.88 to 2.92 to 2.99 to 3.03 to 3.08 as of today. Just in time for the fuel price increases I will be driving far less within a couple weeks once I am back at school....so I'll probably need barely one tank a month, instead of about 8-10 of them... Maybe I'm the reason prices are so high..... I've probably used about 350 gallons between early May and now..... (11 gallons was sams clear fry oil though!!)

I passed by the Pilot truck stop at I-45 North and Patton today, diesel (which just happens to be B15 at that location) was $3.05/gal. I don't usually fill up there anyway, because a few miles north, I can go to the Texaco truck stop and get fuel for less, today, they were at $2.91/gal. Biodiesel is starting to look better to me at $2.68/gal, I just need to replace those old fuel lines first before going to B100 though.

It seems interesting that the local biodiesel joint here in Tacoma can charge $3.29 while pretty much every other one I've heard of sells it for less. Price gouging perhaps?

Currently in NW Montana, diesel at the franchise stations is 3.20. Other places are 5 to 10 cents higher. We have oil fields and refineries in the Southern part of the state ?!
Diesel was 2.99 for quite awhile, then over a period of four or five days kept jumping up 3 to 6 cents every time you turned around. What's really annoying is that it was the same load of fuel setting in their underground tanks.
Don't know if 25 miles one way to work on the ol' Schwinn is do-able, but I may have to find out.

I wouldn't and never have with results. Cleaned injectors with them out is so much cheaper than that additives that have done nothing so far for my gassers. Now, Anti-Gel is slightly differnt.
