Abreviated Odometer Fix

I had the (sadly) typical slipping odometer and wanted to fix the problem. I read through dieselgiant's howto but found an abreviated method.

http://www.dieselgiant.com/repairyourodometer.htm

I removed the speedometer and disassembled it until I got to the part about removing the shaft that the wheels ride on. I found that I didn't have to remove the shaft. I removed the pressed on collar, then slid the shaft out until it was flush with the housing. This left the area that the pot metal gear rides on exposed. I roughed it up with a utility knife and applied red loc-tite. I pressed the shaft back into place and let it dry. Then I had to turn the shaft by hand to un-stick the loc-tite that was between the housing and the shaft. I did this about 2 minutes into the process, then about 12 hours later. The pot metal gear is now firmly in place, and the shaft turns freely.

I should add one more note: before you button everything back up make sure that all of the numbers are aligned in the little window. My main odometer was between 5 and 6 and I had assumed that it was in the process of changing. What had really happened was that it had been bumped while I was messing with it. Now it sits on half numbers. So 5 to 6 rolls over to 6 to 7.
