Question A/C Motor / Heater Motor '84 300DT

I just received the heater motor w/o fan that I ordered from fastlane, unfortunately it doesn't fit into the old plastic housing. Please don't tell me, that have to replace the entire assembly (480 bucks!).
BTW, the old motor is beyond repair, it was smoking. So, just putting new brushes in doesn't help.

Does your motor (old or new) and housing look like the one in my picture, which shows the motor and housing from my 1985 300D Turbo?

Well, yes, the new one looks like that. I attached pics from my old one. It is slightly bigger and looks like it is put together 'the other way around'. The two screw holes in the back are further apart, the length of the shaft is the same.

Anyone out there have a better background in these fans?
