86 SDL w/142k

Hi Guys. I've stumbled across a two owner, black on grey '86 SDL with only 142k miles. This thing is mint inside and out. The last owner had it for eight years and it was a "dealer's sweetheart" car.. $3,500 A/C jobs, etc. I'm thinking about buying it and driving it for a while, or just reselling it. I'm curious to know what you guys think it's worth.. I have a general idea, but I always like lots of opinions.

Is 142K miles enough of a starting point for you?

Someone will pay upwards of $6000 for it, I'm sure.

Ebay is your friend at times like these.

Thanks guys. I couldn't find anything on ebay as clean or with low miles as this one.

Another question, where do I find the head number? He says he never had any head work done, I'd just like to take a look at it. Thanks.

That is a really good price for that car. I just sold my '86 300 sdl for $4500 and it has 264k miles on it.

No rust? In Joisey? Sounds like a wonderful deal -- go for it! The black/gray is my ideal color combination -- not necessarily for me to own (the black shows the dust too much) but for a friend to own and me to ride in occasionally.

Just above the #2 injector in the shadow of the crossover pipe there's an embosed head part number of the form 603 XXX YY ZZ. The YY will be -14- for an original head, -17- or higher for a replaced head.

I can't believe the turbodiesel would be asking this

Yes, I agree that it's worth north of $7K if it's in pristine condition with factory paint.

For reference, and I know I'm the only one who like this color combo -

To tell you the truth, when I bought my 300SDL in 1/2001 nobody here knew WTF one was.. "Are you sure you don't mean 300SD?".. Nobody knew about casting numbers up until recently around here. I never had a head problem, never needed to check it out.

I sold my 1986 300SDL White/gray to my father a few years ago, he thought he'd drive it on trips, but that never happened. I think I might buy it back from him, just to have one that runs right again.

Ah the early days, I was lurking and you were the only one with an SDL around. Now everyone has one or wants one!

Buy it John, about time you got back into one!

When the time comes Ebay it with a reserve of $6k or so. I think about $8k is what it would sell for.

I'll snag it if I can get it at the right price.. we are a little apart on the price right now, what I offered and what he wants to sell it for. A few teaser pics..

I'm going to have to get my SDL painted before I can park it next to that thing at GTG's!

Same color combo as my SD, looks good.

Well, you can compare the one you are looking at to this:
