I am a little astounded at the number of people that want to cover up the smell with perfume in this thread!

It's such a 'western-medicine' approach! Fix the source of the problem, not just the result!!!

Aren't roaches in the ashtray and seeds/papers in the door pockets factory options on antique VWs?

(beer and bong water)damn i know that smell well.try some old coffee grounds, they get rid of lots of smells.as for the crayon smell,my vw jetta has it too, supposedly it's the wax they use for undercoating.which makes sense to me as i think it smells like the candles i used to light in church 30 years ago as an alterboy.

Ben
You nailed it...I love that smell and it causes me to hark nostalgic to my first car..a 1964 VW Karmann Ghia. Every time I get in my 300 or 240 I think "Thanks for the memories".

reminds me of the Seinfeld

This thread reminds me of the Seinfeld episode in which his car gets permeated by the BO of a valet parling attendant.

Don't know what the moral to that story is, except to maybe sell your car at a huge loss to a wholesaler.

MB interior smell(s)

'Smells like a really beautiful woman smoked a really fine cuban cigar in the
cabin some years ago.

[much more pleasant vision than German horsehair and vinyl]

My 81 euro has the smell while the turbo does not. I don't really like the smell too much and only really becomes noticable after the car has sat all night with the windows rolled up. It usually goes away quickly once inside and air freshners do nothing. I think someone smoked a cigar or something in the turbo a few times. It must have been a long time ago because it isn't pungant or anything like ciggarettes but smells a little smokey, but I actually like it. I think of it as old man smell.

My latest '77 240D was owned by a hard-core smoker. There are nicotine stains everywhere- a fine layer of smelly scum. The ashtray looked like post-war Dresden.

Lately, I have been storing all my charcoal in the car and it seems to be helping. I wonder what I am doing to my health as I am eating my burgers, though.

I think I'd prefer the rotten milk smell over dirty bong water.
