I owned a 76 300D, it was a great car, but a pain to change oil filters on, but it did good at oiling the left front suspension.

you cant tell from pic i dont think, but i dont have the ac belt on, i don believe the compressor is good though. how do i go about putting the belt on, i know i have to get it over the fan, which is easy, but it has to go behind another belt, do the bolts on the pully loosen the belt so that i can get it off, and put the ac belt behind it??? the mechanic book isnt very helpful on this.

If the belt goes on an inside groove then the other belt/s have to come off first. Usually the alternator has an adjustment mechanism. IIRC loosen a bolt that goes north-south then turn a bolt goes diagonally east-west to pivot the alternator towards the block.
Make sure you can spin the compressor pulley by hand before you fit the belt. If possible, engage the compressor and see how difficult it is to spin. You should just be able to turn it. If the compressor pulley does not spin freely and smoothly then don't bother with the belt. Sixto ... stay tuned |

sixto, how freely should it spin when engaged? spin with no tension, or should you just be able to turn it?

Not freely at all when engaged. It takes a lot of hand strength to get it to turn. You'll likely feel the compression strokes of the pistons. Kinda like turning the engine over by hand. You don't want to feel or hear scraping or coarseness or anything like that.

k from your other post, wusunt sure, but i did do that, engaged ac and tried to turn, i could, didnt hear any scraping or courseness when i did it, but will do again tomm when i get a chance, if the ac does not work, i wont worry about it, its almost fall, and then itl be winter, and it is good that heat works

Sorry, should spin easily and quietly with compressor not engaged. Should be no scraping or coarseness with compressor engaged.

guh, went to two auto part stores today and neither of them had the belt (interestingly enough, they had the other belts, and one stores inventory said they had it, yet was no where to be found) guess I'll order the belt from here

i ordered the a/c belt. now im tryin to fix the vacuum problems. doors dont work, trunk doent work, but the diesel fuel cap lock does (only if u look drivers door, immediatly after turning off) i suspect the leaks must be in the lines running to the doors. i checked the t, (that runs from the driver side door) and it is getting vacuum, also the tank resevoir in the tank is hooked up. so i thinking maybe the vacuum lines themselves are the culprit. Any suggestions??????

Get a vacuum line diagram and work your way through the system. Don't forget to test the accumulators/vacuum reservoirs if your car has it/them.
