Transmission acting up
For some reason, my transmission gets into this mood where it will flare between gears. The really wierd thing is that I can shut the car off, restart it and it's fine. It's only done this twice, so hopefully it's just a fluke thing. All the vac hoses appear to be hooked up properly.

When was the last AT fluid and filter change? Maybe it's due.

Next time instead of turning the car off, try unplugging the line to the vacuum line to the transmission modulator. Pulling it out of the top of the vacuum control valve (next to the IP) would be fine. That should give you firm even shifts. That will at least tell you if it is a vacuum issue.
