Hey everyone. As some of you are probably aware, in '85, Mercedes went nuts with the vacuum system on the W123. There's all kinds of extra stuff relating to the EGR and transmission and what not. There's also some kind of electrical sensor on the ip. My question is, can I simplify this system so that its like my federal '84? The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting ready to pull both engines out of my '85s and I'm afraid I'll mess something up. I plan on taking lots of pictures and tagging things but there is just so much crap under there compared to my '84. Plus it would just really simplify things and really make it look cleaner under the hood. I got the idea when I was reading Brian Carlton's post about removing all the vacuum lines associated with the EGR. I did this on the '84 and I'm really pleased with how much cleaner it looks under the hood. My only conern is that it might affect how the tranny shifts. If it could be just a line that runs from whatever that bleed-off valve on the ip is called to the tranny, that would be excellent. I also have both diagrams, the '84 as opposed to the '85, if anyone would like to see how much more complicated it is. Thanks.
