Lights improvement in a w123 euro?
 

Hello everyone!

I have a new project for my 300D euro. Yesterday I was driving back home at night and I realized that my lights are not quite as bright as they could. I did some research about w123 lighting improvements and found this: http://www.jaimekop.com/240D/lights/

Since I have square euro headlights, I think I will convert the foglights, which use an H3 bulb, to receive an H4 bulb. I'll do some of the wiring the guy from the 240D did and I'm going to install a new set of fog lights under the front bumber. This way I'll have double low and double high beam, I'll still have foglights and I'll be able to control them with the original switch.

What do you think? Any advice?

Hmmmmm.... I checked Daniel's website and its loaded with useful info, but now I'm a little bit confused.

It seems that my plan of using the original euro foglights as driving lights will be impossible due to the optics of the lenses.

I still want some more light when I drive at night. I guess I'll have to look for another solution.

Any suggestions?

Install higher wattage bulbs and buff up your wiring harness (relay, etc)...and then aim the lights properly.

Or if you have the vacuum adjust function working, set it to the lowest so it points to the foreground.

Check the voltage output of your alternator and if it is ok then get your eyes checked.

Ok guys, I'll do that tomorrow morning. Anyway I checked the lenses and they are a little bit faded, so I took them to a windshield shop to have them polished properly. I also found out that the reflectors are also faded, so I took them to a chrome shop to have them refinished. I'll let you know the outcome of this.

I was wondering what would happen if I bypass the electric system so that when I put the high beams, both filaments (low beam and high beam) stay on. Any word on this? Will the bulb stand the excessive heat?

How 'bout just adding another set of lights? Little PIAA's down under the bumper?

Or new lenses for your lights if they are pitted. You might be able to have the lenses polished.

It used to be that the only time headlights were aimed was in annual safety inspections. Nowadays, this corresponds to never. Consequently, there are a lot of cars that either light up the cracks right in front of the car or who-knows-what with lamps that are "crosseyed".

Update, I just got lenses back and they look great!!! I beleive better than new! :) The reflectors shoould be here by tomorrow. I already bought a set of H4 ceramic connectors (this will stand the extreme heat) and the heavy duty relays ans wiring. I'm planning to install Narva 130W/100W from http://www.danielsternlighting.com/

I beleive this should be enough. I'm also planning to put a set of HID driving lamp under the bumper where the small plastic grill is.
