It is awesome so much that car looks like the 126! I mean, i know its all made of recyclend MB engeineering, but it looks like a retro styled 126... that car looks as much like a 126 as the 2005 Mustang looks like a 69 Mustang.
Classic style! Mercedes got it right the first time!

What about that V-6 engine?
Any thoughts on that new diesel engine??? Do you think it will go 300-400k miles or more???

Who makes it? I mean if its a MB engine... then sure... if its a Mopar engine... truly built in the USA by Chrysler... maybe... if it is some sub contracted engine builder in India... never... thats the problems with new cars... its all work done buy the lowest bidding sub contractor.
This is why I hate American cars! I love classic american cars built in the USA, but today they may be assembeled in the USA, but who made the engine? the transmision? the Axels? Its all cheap Sub Contracted Crap. I'd by a new Mercedes or maybe Toyota, because those companies build all their own components, so there is quality control. BTW I like inline engines, they are generly stronger... more main bearings. so yeah if they offered a I-6 (or better yet an I-5) i'd buy that over the V6

factory fog lights, cooled alternator, manual shut off on the inj pump, has anybody else noticed how the serpentine belt deflects off the bottom and top of the waterpump pulley!can you say no side load on the pump bearing.it should theoretically last forever.the cool little vent inside the right side wheelwell in front of the tire.i looked at it the other day when the car was hot and it was open, must be thermostatically controlled.a/c charge fittings you can actually see.power steering filter, and just today driving in the rain with the intermitants on,driving down the road i met a semi.he was throwing a spray 30 ft out the side, when i went by it's like the pillars on the sides of the windshield created this super vortex and created a layer 2 inchs thick over the windshield,it put no extra rain on the windshield whatsoever.i was totally impressed.chrome strip around back window that funnels rain water out the sides and away from the glass.theres more i just can't think of them right now.these are one awesome piece of fine german engineering.

Actualy its very old W210 bits, and cheap W210 part rip offs. Nothing like sticking an 11 year old design under a pretty modern shell with 11 year old parts. But it works, and its the best Chrysler product I have ever come across. They use the 722.6 trans in some of them, which is leaps and bounds better then anything Chrysler ever had.

I don't know anything about the mechanical design, I just can't get past the styling. This car just looks too "chunky." It looks like they were intentionally trying to make it look more substantial than it is, and they went too far.
Recent Chrysler styling isn't exactly subtle. I know a guy who had a Viper for a while, he called it a "cartoon car." |

Not a single one of you would turn down a w210-- I seriously doubt it, at least! It is seriously lazy to pretend the car is a re-skinned w210 or a copy of a w126.
This is the doing of DCX, boys. The Daimler-Benz and Chrysler Corporation's that we love are dead and this is what we have left. Don't blame Chrysler; That company answers to Stuttgart now. It is little more than an American division of a German Corporation. You would all do well to think of it more as DCX saving pennies and less of it as Chrysler copying anything. **ALL** of these cars are produced by the same company, DCX, not Chrysler or Daimler-Benz.

I'll also pass on the W210, if I wanted one, that's what I would be driving.
I do agree that DC is responsible for whatever misadventures Chrysler has had in recent years. I almost think DC is using Chrysler as a giant skunk works for weird styling ideas. |

Style is a subjective thing, I think the 300C and its family of cars are very nice looking. The seat frames are right out of the W210, so the seats are quite comfortable.

I like this thread! You just reminded me of many of the things that I really like about my SDL. Right after I bought it about 3 years ago for $4000, we took it to my wife's company Christmas party with valet parking. I enjoyed standing there watching all the brand new cars brought up, then having everyone ooh and ahh over the SDL being brought to us. Classic!
On another note, the 300C with a diesel engine would prompt me to consider buying a new car for the first time in 30 years. I like the cut of its jib. I did a double take when I first saw the 300 thinking it looked a lot like the 126 body style. Also, my experience with the US diesels has actually been pretty good. My dad drove a pickup truck with a diesel ( I think it was a Ford ), pulling a very heavy 5th wheel trailer around. He had long trips out west, up to Alaska, down to Mexico, and put about 300K miles on it before it needed a rebuild. I thought that was pretty good, especially considering that it did a LOT of work pulling that trailer. On a bad note for the SDL, I need to replace the tensioner shock and I'm none too happy about the work involved to do that. I had to do the thermostat as well. What a pain, especially for something that was so easy on the 82 SD.
