W 126 features that are cool

I have found many things out for myself, but quite a few cool features of theese cars have been listed in various places in this forum.
1 the hood opens up 90* (not on my 82SD, but I hear most of them do)
2 the 4 wheel power dual piston disc breaks can stop on a 1/2 dime!
3 the spring in the gas door serves as a very good gas cap holder
4 at idle in drive stopped at a light on a hill, the vehicle will not roll backwards.
5 the motors are bulletproof for all intents and purposes.
6 can you say free fuel?
7 very protective in collisions
8 who needs a cupholder?
9 most problems on the car are easy to fix for the owner and parts are readilly available.
10... THIS FORUM!!!
do we have more? I wanna hear about them.
John

That's what it is made for.

...neat vent in console to rear seating area.
...rear floor of the SDL is big enough for a square dance.
...corrugated knee protection crash tube above drivers footwell doubles as ducting.
...power seat memory.
...trunk big enough for Jimmy Hoffa and his family.
...uses the same lower balljoints as the W123.
...easy to remove rear seat bottom.
...a full-sized luxury car that barely weighs more than a 123 wagon.

And then there's the stupid stuff:
1) To R&R the thermostat (on a 603 diesel), you have to remove the right headlight, aircleaner and airbox.

Wouldn't that be a nickel?

How about the neat visors that extend so they shade the sun from any side angle?

How about the crappy visors that can't shade the A-pillar?

Sixto
... stay tuned

Any car that comes with a manual tool for the windows and sunroof when they dont work electrically is cool in my book, also like the locking gas cap.

The hood on my '82 300SD opens all the way, AFTER I push the latches on the hinges.

The locks (lean on it when you take a wrong turn into the getto, and the whole car locks)
The manual fule pump on the OM 617
The way the car looks like its only 10 years old when its realy 20 (expecaly with Euro style head lights)
Electronic front seats
Its Diesel (I like it when younger guys in auto shop tell me my cars sounds like it has a rod knock... because diesels only come in trucks)
Its A TANK! (I got into a fender bender in High School with a Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel, I needed a head light replaced and about 3 square inches of body work, he needed his frame straightened )
Bad Guys drive them in movies

The hood on your SD opens all the way. Push the latch's on the hinge's. Every time there is a GTG some new guy is always amazed by this feature! It never gets old showing it to them, good fun.

I like how the doors are heated or cooled depending on how the climate control is set. Read some period stuff about these cars, MB put a lot of time into aerodynamics, light weight material, and crash protection. Did you know a hollow tube runs along the top of the roof on either side? Makes the roof just about impossible to crush, don't worry about something like a roll over. Heck you could probably drive a Hummer over the darn thing and still open the doors.

Timeless design. If you got out the old factory tooling and started up production again I'm sure it would still be a best seller.

The windshield wipers - how one goes at a different pace than the other.

The fuel tank is in the safest place.

My SDL is definitely a 40-foot car: looks great from 40 feet yet, I CONSTANTLY get comments about what a beautiful car it is.

Saw Chrysler 300's in Europe

While in Madrid this summer, saw several Chrysler products with diesel engines in them, including the Chrysler 300.
