Broken Subframe Mount "BOLT" 83' 300sd

I have a BIG problem!

I was removing the bolt to the driver side rear subframe mount. It was moving slowly, with what I thought to be a reasonable amount of force. I was using a 24" braker-bar and socket. I was not having to put all my back into it to get the bolt turning. I felt it was going to come out okay. Suddenly... POP! The bolt broke with about 5 threads left on it. The rest of the bolt still up in the mount threads. ARG!

I am now wondering if anyone has an idea of what now needs to happen to resolve this horific thing I've done to my car.

PLEASE HELP ME! I need ideas!

Im not sure how much access to it you have... but I would drill a hole into the broken off piece slightly smaller than the diameter of the bolt, then hammer in an allen wrench that is slightly bigger than the hole you drilled. Then you can use the allen wrench to remove the rest of the bolt.

It worked for me several times on things I have broken  just depends on how tight the rest of it is in there... you may have to completely drill it out and re-tap the hole.:o

Thanks for the idea... that does sound like an option. I have limited access but I think I can possible get a drill in close enough with the mount removed. The subframe will still be in the way though. I will try the allen wrench idea first and then if it does not come out, I guess drilling it out all the way and then tapping it is still an option too.

Wish me luck!

Cuz,

Heat the bolt when you are trying to get it out.
