Short Woody
My 240's shift knob was looking a bit ratty so I put on a new wood shift knob. I cut the remains of the old vinyl shift knob off of the metal rod that threads onto the shifter assembly and shortened it a few inches. Now the shifter does not look like it came out if a truck.

I wonder if I can fit an Eaton 13-speed in the tunnel.
Does it take much more effort to change gears? |

From the thread title I thought you were referring to a much more intimate problem.

The ball needs a bit of sanding and varnish.
Don't know how much harder it is to shift...there is no tranny in it currently.

the odd shape of the shifter is not arbitrary. it is ideal for the task at hand and is easy on your hand.
when we go on vacation for a week and i drive my truck all the time with a round ball i get a bruise on my palm. with the benz knob i dont as it distributes the weight over a larger area. when you pull it back it also has the effect of shortening the distance by the way it curves forward. i wish i could modify a benz knob for my truck. tom w

Oh, this is about gear shift knobs
I'm sorry. I thought this thread was about male enhancement products when I saw the topic "Short Woody."

Not my woody but...
Its polished and matches the interior of some of your cars.

Update on the short woody: With the tranny in place and the car on the road it shifts great. Now I just need to polish my knob.

Take a bit of clay or like substance & make the shape you think feels best. Then using this as a templet, modify the ball. Instead of varnish, try bowling alley wax. I use this on gun stocks and have a great grip even in cold, rainy, duck days. Any good alley will give you a dab in the off hours & you will allways have a good grip on your woody. Stained or natural? Sorry.

My woody is bigger than yours.
I completely forgot that I had a 3" wood ball in my toolbox. No clue where it came from, I've had it for a few years. I also have a 2" steel ball that I'm going to try for more mass. |
