How to change primer pump?

I've got an '82 240D with the old style primer pump that's leaking. How do you remove the old syle plunger and insert the new one? Do you have to take the whole pump off the car to do it?

Thanks,

Scott

I replaced my primer pump on my 81 300D. I suspect its the same as on your 240D. It was trivial to replace but I don't remember the wrench size. Just unscrew it and put the new one in. I got mine from Phil and the new one is FAR supperior to the old one. The new one does not require you to unscrew the top to start pumping. All that you do is push the pump...very easy.

the new style pumps are nice, but if you veg out, stick with the old style. more robust, and cheaper

I use a plumbers "faucet" wrench, its a "crows foot" sorta thing. Hard to get in there with any kinda reguler wrench.
