Is the wire red and green? My wiring diagram does not show a solid green wire at the ignition.

how to operate car without keyswitch / lock

just to follow up on this nightmare. i got a button and a toggle switch. voltmeter shows 2 'hot' wires out of the maze .. one hot wire when jumped to the purple wire operates the starter. the rest control everything else. so i hooked up the button to one hot wire and the purple wire, then the other hot wire attached to the toggle switch along with all the other wires from the ignition.

operates as follows-
toggle switch 'on' ..turns on glow plugs and light goes out as normal. leave that on when driving the car so all the accessories work.

button- push to start engine.

now to turn the engine off i put a 'T' fitting in between the 2 vacuum lines going to the shutoff valve and block the open end to turn engine off.

certainly the above system is not pretty but works like a charm

total cost about $10

this is the result of having to drill out the bad keyswitch-lock mechanism
