Manal tranny from a 190 fit into a 300d?

I recently acquired a 1983 300CD. The auto transmission is troublesome and I am busy playing with vacuum and cable adjustments, etc... I recently saw a 1986 190 (2.3) with a 5 speed manual transmission at my local junkyard. I'm wondering if it's tranmission would mate up to the engine in my diesel.

Anybody know where I can find out?

Thanks

I don't think it will. A manual from a 240D will fit, but the drive shaft will have to be modified.

I was wondering if the driveshaft from a CD would be suitable for a D w/ 5SPD?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll eventually rebuild the automatic. I hate driving automatics though.

I'm guessing that if these cars had lockup torque converters, they could have allowed more slip (and torque multiplication) and made for a very much better launch from standstill. - Wishful thinking.

Being an EE, I'm already dreaming of building a little device that measures the vacuum from the regulator on the back of the fuel pump, engine RPM (from the tach signal), and MPH (from the cruise control signal pickup on the back of the speedometer). It's output would be a signal to an electric vacuum regulator that feeds the modulator control on the transmission.
From RPM and MPH, the device would be able to figure out what gear you're in and allow more vacuum on the 1-2 shift and proportionately less on the 2-3 shift, for instance. You could make the transmission at least shift properly - even without changing to the lower coefficient #2 band.

It's a rainy day project musing - it'll probably never happen.

Of course my tranmission leaks from the input shaft seal. My little electronic dream won't fix that, so I'll probably just buy a rebuild kit and have at it.
