torque converter leak and noise
question for 300sd turbo diesel 1984.
Does anyone know what will cause the torque converter to start making a loud noise and start leaking at the same time. I did a little research and the only thing i could find was the flex disk. So what will be the solution to fix the torque converter from making such a lound sound and to stop it from leaks. Would the replacing both flex disk and replacing seals around the t/c and replacing the drive shaft support and bearing and pinion seals most likely clear up this problem. Need help before i start talking to a repair shop, because I will like to know what parts I could go ahead and order to have on hand ready, as soon as i fine a shop to do this work. thanks for all comments |

ok - torque converter and flex disc are on opposite ends of your transmission...
did you mean flex plate? if so, inspect/ check tightness of the 6 bolts that hold the converter to the plate and see if part of your plate hasn't broken off. This happened on my 83 300CD to its previous owner. It had always made a ticking noise from the bellhousing and one day the plate just shattered.

flex plate on 1984 300sd benz
I looked under the car for the flex plate, found the rear flex plate. Can't seem to find the front one in the t/c area. I pretty much think it bad, my other question is if the front flex plate is bad, will it cause trans oil to leak from the t/c area. already checked the t/c plug, no leak there. Just trying to see if a leak will be connected to the flex plate in some form if the flex plate is bad. Both noise and leak in this area occured at the same time. Maybe a bad plate not turning true could cause oil to be thrown out at some point.
