Talking Wrecking yard loot!

For a whooping $125.00 I just picked up:

(From a 1988 560SEL)
Rear window with NO delamination - none!
Cruise Control Amp
Rear seat belt (not cracked)
Rear light (not cracked)

(From a 1985 380SE)
Cruise Control Amp
All Relays from fuse box (about 8)
Monovalve insert
Ashtray with intact trim

I hope to replace the massively delaminated rear window in the 1985 300SD in the next day or so. The rear defroster has been totally wasted for years. I can't wait.

I think I did quite well actually.

Sounds like you got some great deals. It might be a little far for you to drive but Chesterfield Auto Parts in Richmond charges the same price for parts regardless of what car they come out of. If you're shopping for Mercedes parts, it's always a steal.

Delamination

Can you explain what you mean by delamination of the rear window? I've never heard of, nor noticed such a thing.

Universal list of pull it yourself yards?

Is there an all encompassing list of the pull it yourself yards in the US or in a specific state?

They seem to be hidden everywhere.

I finally got around to replacing the rear window. The delay came in having to special order the MB-Sealant - which I would not attempt to substitute with anything else.

I also finally had an opportunity to see how well the defroster works. Unfortunately there are about 8 bands right about in the middle of the window that don't work. They are separated by two good bands so after a short time the entire window clears! In any event it is a far cry better than the POS I had in there before - massive delamination on both sides and only about 2 inches a working defroster on the very top.

It just looks soooooo much better.

Thumbs up

I replaced rear glass in my SD also over the summer from a '90 420SEL.

Hopefully one cruise amp will work for you I have a stack of bad ones.

I picked up a nearly perfect grille, a good rear seat (decent upholstery and excellent padding and springs), all three rear seatbelts in great shape, and a climate control switch which appears to be in good shape (haven't tested it yet) all for $47 at my local pick and pull.

I understand the sentiment, but when you sit back and think about it, is that the sealant used on all these cars, in which an inordinate amount have leaking windshields front and back??????
