300D ALL new brakes. Do I need the anti-rattle spring?

When I removed my old calipers both of the front had holes in the top of the rubber dust boots for the pistons. I think it was from the "anti-rattle" springs that are used on my car. I have an 85' 300D. Do I need to put these things back in?

The holes in the rubber boots were caused by the fact they're 21 years old.

It's silly to think this is a design problem.

You need to replace the rubber.

You should continue using the antirattle shims.

Just looking for an fix to a problem! I know it is 21 years old and that is why I did not replace the rubber, but the disc, calipers, pads, bearings, hoses, master cylinder, and gold fluid flush! The holes were on all four piston rubbers in the same spot that the wire anti-rattle came in contact with them, sounds like a "design problem" to me.
