Search function question

Just want to make sure I completely understand our search function. Is it not a one word search engine? I know it will look up a word if I type it in. But if I type in two words, for example "vacuum leak", doesn't it give all things with "vacuum", and all things with "leak", but not all things with both together.
On another forum set up like ours (Chevy or Ford truck. I forget which), you can search for phrases, or multiple words by placing a * after the word, and leaving a space, or putting in a comma........ something like that.
SO, are we one word only?????:silly:

i know you cant put just one word in ... and yes if you type in vacuum leak or something like that it will show up

..."a fuel leak" .. or ..."vacuum guage".. its weird

You're correct, Jimmy. It can only search individual words........not phrases.

If you go to advanced search you have the option to search titles. If you search for vacuum leak in titles you are more likely to find what you are looking for.

You can also use google advanced search and restrict the search to this site. That gives you more powerful search options.

That's a terrific idea. I did an advanced search on "vacuum leak" and got 1090 replies.

Have to use Google more often rather than the search available on site.

The problem with searching titles are the titles that state "Help, my defroster won't shutoff". The problem is a "vacuum leak".

Which is why I really wish people would be a little better picking titles for new threads.
For example, there's a thread "And all the little pieces went flying".
If the person had mentioned "seat switch" It would be better for searching.

Maybe moderators can change them as they come up.

I doubt moderators have enough time to waste doing that. Then we would have to pay them a lot more!! ;)
