if the caliper has one of these
its an ATE.. and make sure the pins are holding it in, my pins were underneath the clip and it was just hanging in there |

I know for a fact that my calipers have that particular spring in them. I remember that from when I replaced my brake pads the last time.... I am going to be looking for parts now...... Thank you for the info

that does not tell you ANYTHING. you need to look at the side of the caliper. i have seen both types in ate and bendix.

On my ATE calipers, the front of the caliper had the ATE logo on it. I believe I had bendix on the front and ate on the rear.

Ive been looking online, and it looks like that clip is interchangble between the Bendix and the ATE brands. Im just going to pull the wheel off tomorrow and see if there is anything that has a name on it.
Is there any difference in the appearance of the 2 different brands? Or are they physically identical and just have different performance?

i belive they look a tiny bit different. the ate seems to be the prefered brand. the ate's will say ate in cursive and the bendix will say bendix in normal lettering

the ate pins that hold in the pads are a friction fit and must be driven out with a drift.
the bendix have little hair pins in the end that hold in the big pins. i prefer the ate because the bendix little pins can be a bit of a pain now and then. otherwise there is no difference and they can be mixed without any negative consequences in my experience. the pads are the same and the cylinders are the same diameter. tom w

So, for example, I could have a Bendix caliper on the left front, and an ATE on the right front, and have no real issues with braking performance?
I have seen with places online that you need to replace them in pairs if you are switching brands.... I guess thats just a way to make more money.

really truley you are supposed to replace them in pairs and of the same brand. i have mixed brands and had no problems.

I have the ATE brand on the car. I just re-read what T Walgamuth posted about the pins on each brand. I remember using a tool to drive out the pins that hold the pads in place.
Thanks to everyone who posted replies on this. It helped alot..... KFC
