I saw a 300D for sale for $700.00. The person selling it said it needs a new fuel pump? They stated the car ran out of diesel and burned up the pump?

Is it possible that they don't realize that the car may need a new primer pump and fuel? The person selling the car is an executor of an estate.

What do you guys think? Should I go for it?

Evne if the car didn't run you could part it out and make a profit.

Worth a look. May just need to be primed.

Fuel pump replacement difficulty?

When I look at the car then I should do the following:
1) Check the primer pump
2) Fuel filter
3) Fuel lines

I should be able to start the car and drive it if I have an auxillary fuel source?

It would not be a good idea to diagnose and fix it infront of them. They might get ticked off and want more $ because it runs. (Plus, it's just plain rude.)

Point well taken. But that should be the steps for diagnostic?

first off, thats just BS. the seller doesn't know what they're talking about. these cars dont have such a "fuel pump" as most other vehicles do. no damage would be done from running it out of fuel, the engine would just shut off.

More than likely, the car ran out of fuel and now has a huge void of air in the lines that hasn't all been purged yet. It's possible the primer pump is sucking in air, but even then unless its a huge leak, you should still be able to get it started.

Just keep at it, it will start.

How do I determine if the air is the problem and correct it?

if the primer is a spin off, does it leak when you pump it?
