Offered to buy my car. I have spent the rest of the day being hounded by my wife for not even asking how much.....

I finished replacing my dash today!!!!

If that happened to me, I'd instantly tell him $25,000 minimum... and I only paid $200 for this car, I love it tho!

Remind her that if you sell it, you're just going to have to buy another one. The price you'll likely pay will be more than you paid before and it'll probably be less of a car.

Always remember, when somebody asks "what would you take for your xxxx", they are not asking what it is "worth". What we would take to get rid of most of our MB's is certainly more $ than it is 'worth'.
Likewise, I was looking at a horribly ugly little 240D a month or so ago, and they asked me what I'd give them for it. Well of course they were quick to point out how they thought it was worth a lot more than what I said.
I reminded them, "look, you asked me what I'd give you for it". I was actually scared they'd say OK........

Same thing happened to me today! And this machine is a mess right now. Offered $300 more than I paid for it two months ago.

I'm into it for more than that now, so, no dice. But ditto with the wife - she told me to take it and run.

I had a guy follow me home before then he asked if I wanted to sell, and I said no way, so he said "well, thats too bad then, but here's my name and number if you should change your mind, it really is a nice car" I promptly threw away his info when he left. I decided a long time ago that my car is with its current and final owner. I plan on having it for as long as I possibly can. I want to be there on the day I roll 300k with it.....only 53,920 miles to go!!

I said I'd take 1750 for it. You should see it now boy. No trim, bumpers, blue trunk, headlights off... I want to drop it off to be painted early next week.

Any chance you're cruisin' the junkers anytime soon Dub?

He gave me his number, but I expect he'll be back.

Now, if I can't figure out how to get the seat height adjust to work I may just take him up on it.

A hard right turn will bottom out the springs on my seat.

That's it winmutt. WD40 + patience might be the thing to unstick seats. I'll tell you what though, if you want to sell your car do not spray PB Blaster in the cabin. Thank you Lord for 4 windows AND a sunroof! That PB junk'll send you high like a kite. ((update: the smell is gone))

PB blaster will eat many types of plastic. Don't get that stuff on anything except metal parts. On the flip side, I have tried many penetrating oils over the years and none of them beat PB Blaster.

Negotiations are everything. Start out with a high price that will make him think a little bit. If he makes a counter-offer then you know he is serious. Add up all your receipts plus throw some value in there for your time. Whether the car is worth that or not, use that price. The key to making money off one of these old diesels is to get the car for a cheap as possible. Unless you are just putting used parts into the car, your outlay for parts will be the same as anyone else's. That is, new parts prices are somewhat consistent but the value of cars fluctuates. Find a cheap one, fix the typical things and make some money on it so you can go on to the next project car. Also keep in mind that the cleaner it looks the higher the asding price.

Not that I have any interest in selling the SDL, but if a serious offer was to come in north of $9k, I'd consider it.

I almost sold the SD to the parking garage guy at SCSU last year, but I kind of needed it to get around. That tends to be the downside of selling a car you currantly kind of need.
