W126 owners CHECK YOUR BRAKE LINES!

I cannot say this enough, if you have an older W126 and live in an area where rust is an issue inspect your brake lines! If they are suspect replace them, they are dirt cheap to replace. I have had to replace brake and fuel lines on both of mine! The SD just blew one apart this week in my garage.

They rust espeicaly bad above the rear subframe, I have replaced all the rear brake lines on both of my W126's.

Also remember before driving any old car thats been sitting for a bit, stand on the brakes hard! Better to blow one in park, than at 50mph.

I had the same thing happen to me in the bimmer. When I was 14 and it still belonged to my step-dad, he decided to teach me how to drive a standard. I did ok but when I came to a stop, I unconsciously tried to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor like the clutch pedal. We heard a shhhhh!! then the brake went all the way to the floor. It was only about a mile to the house so we went really slowly. Good thing that happened when I was already at a stop and not some time when I might have really needed it! Needless to say, all the lines got replaced.

I agree, I spent maybe $25 for all four brake hoses....

I do believe he's refering to the hardlines, also.

I just got done patching a couple of rusted-through spots on my w126. If I had access to a lift I would have done the entire thing. I used standered Inverted-flares with the proper unions.

Makes sense.
